Vacation time again.

I've been working at the same place long enough for me to get 4 weeks
of vacation time a year. Last year I took only one week off. Just one.
This year I'm going to take all I can. Extra if I can swing it.

Thursday the fam's packing into the xB and heading MN way.

The father-in-law lives near the Twin Cities with wife number 3 or 4
and also has a cabin on a lake about 150 miles South of Canada. There's
a very good chance that I'll be spending time in excess of 30 minutes
outside. In fact I think we may be boating and fishing.

Last time were up there it was Christmas and -2ºF so this should be a
little different.

On our past driving vacations we always been able to work in some
skateboarding but I don't see this happening.

So anyway, I'll try to post some pics as it happens but it prolly won't
happen.

If I could do it over agian...

I was just watching The Price is Right and I've decied that in my next life I'm going to be a spokesmodel.

It seems pretty easy. Just pose next to a product and make it seem like the best thing ever. I could do that.

Yeah, sometimes you have to dress like a pirate for the Carribean trip or like a fireman when you give away a barbecue, but that'd be okay.

Plus you get to sleep with Bob Barker!

Unless there's some dark secret I don't know about, there really isn't a down-side.

Bender update

I started assembling the Tonebender MKII that my fam was kind enough to gift me for my Birth/Father's Day. I was doing just a little bit each night after work so I could enjoy the experience of building the thing.

I finished it the Thursday night and gave it a go.

The tone was pure retro buzzola fuzz that cleans up nicely when you back off the guitar's volume. The fuzz tone is nice and wooly while the cleaner tones sound almost like a treble boost.

The box needs to be painted but for all purposes I'm done. I think I might go buy a local chopper shop and see if they'll pait the box for cheap. They might get a kick out it.

The only bad thing about the whole affiar is that I think I may be addited to builder effects pedals now.

When/if I get it painted I post pics.

Blogging instead of roofing...

We've had a persistant leak in our roof near a skylight for a couple of months now.

I've tried everything to fix it and after each repair it stays fixed for a couple of storms, but then all of a sudden it starts to leak again.

So after playing around with other fixes I've decided to just empty 5 gallons of cold tar on the suspected area of the leak. If this doesn't work I'll break down and pay a roofer a few hundred bucks to fix it.

It's about time.

Since the dawn of the space age we've been rocket snobs. We've never really considered any other propulsion to tool around space.

And why would we look past rockets? Rockets are a loud, sleek, phallic mode of transportation that still seem futuristic.

But as it turns out, the best way to get around the solar system is the humble sail.

Let's hope the Solar Sail changes space travel.

Sunday

Sunday as you all know is Father's Day. So the extended fam is getting together at my in-laws' house for the festivities.

This F-Day is a little different cuz we're (ot they) are doubling up the day with my birthday. My birthday is on Tuesday, but it's just easier to piggyback my b-day on f-day.

I have a very strong hunch that Mary and Josh got me this for my birthday/father's day present.

Yeah, it doesn't look like much, but when it's all together it'll sound like the Vox tonebender.

Since the box is pretty plain I'm prolly gonna put this "Bender" on the box.

Firefly picked up?

TV.com has a nice little story saying that SciFi has picked up the incredibly under-rated show Firefly.

Firefly was/is the space-western brainchild of Joss Whedan that FOX killed off but is now almost in theaters.

So who is going to care?

Well, FOX ditched because of low ratings so most people won't care. But what did FOX expect after they ran the episodes out of order?

But I think that SciFi is a better fit for the show. SciFi seems to allow new shows to find their feet and grow an audience.

But this is all moot if SciFi doesn't order new shows.

MacTel? Inple?

After giving it much thought, I have finally decided that I don't care about the whole Apple / Intel chippy thing.

I figure if it looks like a Mac, feels like a Mac and acts like a Mac then its a Mac.

I prolly won't end up getting one in 2010 anyway so what's my worry?

BTW, have you seen all the room inside the DEV model?

You'd think...

If you were Apple and you'd just signed an agreement with the biggest rival chipmaker you have, you'd yank all of the bad propaganda about them and put up some good.

But, that's just me I guess.

The Five Stages of Intel Macs

This may be closer to the truth than not.

It's love!

I can't help it. I have a weakness for pretty guitars.

I need help.
