The best Christmas memory I have was when Josh was only 2 1/2.
It was Christmas morning 1995 and being the good Catholics we were at the time we made it to the morning mass. It was very crowded but we found seats off to the side and Josh had some quiet toy in tow to keep him occupied during the hour long mass.
Josh was very quiet during the service, he just played with his toy without noise as the mass went on around him. He was doing about as good as small child on Christmas morning could do.
Finally the priest was to his homily. He was talking about Jesus' birth, life and finally sacrifice.
Fr. Brosnan was talking about the crucifixion in very hushed tones, the church was still, hanging on his words.
He let Jesus' sacrifice sink in, then said these words letting the air hang between the phrases, "... and that is why... we come together... in the presence of the lord".
At that moment every person was listening.
At that moment every person heard a very excited small voice eminating between my wife and I say "PRESENTS?!?!?!? WHERE?!?!?!?"
The church-goers burst out laughing. My wife turned nearly five shades redder than I'd seen before. Josh got bummed out when I told him that there were no presents in the church.
The priest wrapped things up quickly because his momentum was stolen.
