My iPod has been acting like it was gonna crater any day, and it did. So I got to use the updater finally and I'm throwing songs on it right now. Luckily I still had a lot of the stuff I ripped on my iMac. Still, I had over 2000 songs on there.
Since this is the first time I've ever had a real prob with Apple hardware, I'm not going to issue a "SMART MOVE APPLE!!11!!" and save it for when something big happens.

Looks like the drive may be toast, so off to Apple it goes,
I think it's still covered by Applecare.
